MERLIN

The new building is ready. Built in a contemporary architectural style and facing the present winery, it will accommodate the wines of the 2009 vintage with separate reception arrangements for the reds and the whites. The area designated for red wines, circular in shape, will contain ten or so vats. The much larger space devoted to white wines includes a stock-holding area. All vats are temperature controlled for the control of fermentation.

The building is climate-controlled and designed to be energy-efficient with heat pump, brick walls, and wood cladding.  The red-wine vatting-house, with its wood cladding bound with hoops, exactly reproduces the form of a wooden wine-vat. The effect is superb and blends harmoniously into the village La-Roche-Vineuse. The roof is of "roman" tiles in the Mâconnais style, echoing the fluid lines of the local topography.

The new building will permit reorganisation of the present winery, which henceforward will be devoted to post-fermentation elevage.
